September 2011

A very busy time!

I’m going to be having an incredibly busy time in October, because I’m on tour all over the country with Sapphire Battersea, the sequel to Hetty Feather. I’m attending the exciting Jacqueline Wilson festival in Preston and I’m going to the launch of the very special Seven Stories exhibition in Newcastle. I’ve just been meeting with the brilliant organisers and I’m really thrilled with the way everything is shaping up. There’s going to be so much to do and see, including a mock-up of my childhood bedroom with all my special notebooks and stories and dolls and cuddly toys – and another replica bedroom at the end, a copy of the room where I do my writing now. It’s very much a grander version of my childhood room. There’s even a replica Jacob the cat lying on my pink chaise longue!

I’m therefore trying to get on with lots of work in September! I’ve finished writing  The Worst Thing About My Sister, and will be checking the page proofs soon. I can’t wait to see Nick’s illustrations. I’ve started my new book now – a third book about Hetty Feather. I’m only on the first chapter so far, but I’m getting thoroughly absorbed in the story. I do love Hetty – she’s definitely my favourite character.

I’m also checking the scripts for the third series of Tracy Beaker Returns. I don’t write them myself, but they’re all sent to me for my approval. I think all the script writers do a wonderful job. I’d just like to say here that I don’t have any say whatsoever when it comes to casting, so it’s no use sending me emails and photos begging for a part! I wish I could help, but the television people won’t let me!

Then there’s all the magazine article and charity work and all the letters to sift through. It’s tiring at times – but I wouldn’t swap with anyone else in the whole world!

Love from Jacqueline Wilson
