If you could be any Jacqueline Wilson character who would you be?
March 2010
I’ve just this minute finished revising my book for October, hurray! I’m very touched that so many of you are writing books too. I liked your exciting story, Alice (and your fantastic hand-made Jacky-cat is smiling at me from my bookshelf). Anna, your great Victorian story about Mildred the servant girl made me want to write some more about my Hetty Feather. Abi, you’re an incredibly prolific and original story writer. You’re all very talented girls.
I’m not sure I’m going to have much time for writing this month! I’m touring all over Britain promoting my new book, Little Darlings. I wonder if you’ve read the sample chapters given away in my brand-new Official Jacqueline Wilson Magazine? I hope they’ve whetted your appetite! I shall enjoy talking about the two girls in the story, Destiny and Sunset. They’re such very different girls. Destiny lives with her single mum on a tough housing estate up north, while Sunset lives in a mansion down south with her outrageous celebrity parents. They seem to come from totally different worlds – but when they meet they find they’re connected in a very surprising way.
I had such fun writing their story, especially inventing all the over-the-top celebrity parties and presents! Destiny has such a beautiful singing voice and Sunset discovers she can make up songs, so it would be perfect if I sung a couple of songs when I give my March talks. The only trouble is I can’t sing for toffee. I don’t want my audience shrieking with laughter at me!
I hope the horrible grey, rainy weather will brighten up and become fresh and Spring-like for the tour. However, I’ll be enjoying a little sunshine no matter what, because the second week in March I’m flying off to the Dubai Literary Festival. I always love a chance to meet my fans from overseas, and I think there are going to be two huge events at the festival, with big signings afterwards. I also hope to have some free time there too. I’d like to get a chance to go out into the desert – and I’d also love to have a go at some camel riding. I’ll tell you all about it in next month’s diary.
Lots of love, Jacqueline
