December 2011

Merry Christmas!

It's nearly Christmas and I'm starting to panic, because I've only bought one present so far (a ring for my daughter Emma - don't tell her!). I'm not sure what I'm going to get the rest of the family and all my friends. I do know what I'm getting Jacob - his own big tin of chocolate toffees. I wouldn't let him eat one, of course - and I don't think he'd be interested unless they were mouse flavour. Jacob just likes the brightly coloured shiny wrappers. I'm happy to eat the toffee and then scrumple the purple or yellow or brown wrapper into a little ball and throw it across the room.

Jacob instantly forgets he is a dignified little cat. He hurtles forwards and catches the toffee paper and then kicks it with his paws. He's had to rest quietly in a big cage for weeks because he broke one of his paws very badly - but thank goodness the operation to pin all his little bones into place has worked and he's learning to walk all over again. Let's hope he's back to his own sweet nimble self by the 25th

- that's the only Christmas present I really want.

I do hope you all have a lovely time over the holidays - and if you get books as presents then Happy Reading!
