December 2009

I’ve just been to see a very exciting preview of Tracy Beaker Returns! I had the idea of a grown-up Tracy going back to the Dumping Ground as a temporary care worker. She’s still as feisty and funny as ever, and gets into just as many scrapes. There are lots of new children living at the Dumping Ground now. The series starts in January – something to look forward to!

Oh dear, it’s December already and I haven’t got any Christmas presents organised yet. Help! Still, I’m going to have a special Christmas shopping day with my daughter Emma soon. She’d like a new necklace or bracelet, so that’s easy-peasy. I used to love it when Emma was little and she would have a new doll at Christmas, or maybe a cuddly toy. She had an entire den of furry bears of all different colours – but the bear she loved the best was a strange little koala. We got him from her school Christmas fair. Some well-meaning but not very skilled lady had made a lot of toy animals to sell at the fair. Emma immediately fell in love with this odd little creature with a big head, hardly any limbs to speak of, and long black claws. She held him hopefully and said she really wanted him. ‘You want this funny grey thing?’ said the woman running the stall. ‘He’s twenty-five pence.’ It was the cheapest but best present ever – and we called him Greything.

Jacky with Jacob, her new kitten

I’m hoping for lots of books this Christmas – and maybe a new pair of shoes. I wear sensible shoes for when I’m going to do some serious walking, but I love fun shoes too. I’ve got a pair of bright red boots with very high heels that I wore when I was on tour, and they were much admired. I also like some grey shoes with a silver buckles and pink heels. I’ve also got some sparkly dancing shoes that wouldn’t look out of place on Strictly Come Dancing!

I shall have to give my kitten a special Christmas stocking of catnip toys. Thank you so much for all your brilliant suggestions for his name. I thought long and hard, and after a lot of deliberation, I’ve decided to call him Jacob. He seems to like his name and new home – and I absolutely adore him.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Love Jacqueline
