If you could be any Jacqueline Wilson character who would you be?
Do you like August? Most people like August because they’re on holiday. I like August for a weird reason: I like it because that’s when I get my best work done! Everyone else is on holiday, so I don’t get many phone calls or letters or emails. I can sit undisturbed at my computer for hours. I’m nearly always finishing a novel in August, and this month is no exception. I’m on the last chapter of my new book. it’s all written in scribbly little purple writing in a lovely big green notebook, so most of August I shall be typing it out, making lots of changes and corrections as I go.
I’ve got several interviews as well, but they all sound interesting. I’ve got to do a Radio Scotland programme called My Life in Five Books. I’ve been asked to choose my favourite children’s book. I’m going to talk about Nancy and Plum by Betty Macdonald. I must have read it at least ten times, bit I’ll maybe indulge myself and read it one more time before the programme. I’ll also be making a trip up to Edinburgh to the Festival, where I’ll be giving a couple of talks and catching up with some of my special friends. I shall particularly enjoy seeing Anna, who always sends me the most amazing cards she draws herself. I’m certain she’ll be writing and illustrating her own books one day.
At the end of the month I’ll be having a tiny holiday myself – I’ll be going to Paris with my daughter Emma.
