August 2011

Will Jacob be getting a new playmate?

I hope you're all having a great time on holiday. I'm not going away anywhere in August - I had a week on the lovely Norfolk coast in June, and a long weekend staying at a Gothic Temple in July with Nick and our two best
friends. The Gothic Temple was extremely delightful and romantic, set in the huge beautiful landscape gardens of Stowe.

The temple was very exciting, with a mosaic dome and an indoor balcony running round the first floor, and bedrooms in the cupolas. There was a belvedere too, and at night there were fantastic fireworks, so we climbed all the winding stairs and then watched spellbound as the sky exploded in reds and golds and purples. There were flocks of sheep grazing all around. I'd always thought of sheep as quiet peace-loving creatures, so I was startled to be woken up at dawn by the most ferociously insistent baa-ing! The sheep had totally surrounded our Temple and had all flung back
their woolly heads and were baa-ing fit to burst.

I shall be catching up on a lot of work this August, but at the end of the month I'll be up in Edinburgh for the festival, and I plan to take in a couple of shows while I'm there. I've been invited to go round Battersea Dog and Cat Home to see behind the scenes. I love Battersea - and I'm so grateful to them, because they rescued my lovely Jacob when he was a tiny bedraggled kitten and looked after him, until I came along and knew the moment I set eyes on him that he was mine. I'm just a little wary that I might see ANOTHER sad little kitten and be unable to resist!

Love from Jacqueline Wilson
