A new fan with many questions...

Hi Jacky,

My name is Jade. I am 10 years old. I would love it if you could reply to my e-mail. Even a word or just saying ‘Thank you for the letter’. It would be a great pleasure to have a letter from you.

The reason I started liking you is:

When I was in Year 5, my English teacher, Miss Johnson wasn’t a fan of you. SO I believed her and I thought the same, even though I had never read one of your books.

Until...

My family went to see my younger sister’s godfather and his family just before Christmas and he gave me a Christmas present. This present was ‘Hetty Feather’ one of your books. At first I wasn’t that sure. But I tried it. And I fell deeply in love with the book and you.

I have since read ‘How To Survive Summer Camp’, ‘Lola Rose’, ’The Longest Whale Song’, ‘The Story of Tracy Beaker’ and now I am reading ‘My Secret Diary’. I love you now!

I have a few pets:

Jed ( Jedward ) -18months- Chocolate Labrador Dog

Jaz ( Jasmina ) – 3 years-Tortoise Shell Cat

Thumps ( Thumper ) - 5 years – Netherland Dwarf Rabbit

13 fish.

I have a few questions for you:

Do you have any pets?

What inspired you to write?

Are you still best friends with Chris, Cherry, Carol and Sue?

Which book is your favourite that you have wrote?

How are your imaginary friends? Or have they left?

Lola Rose has got to be my favourite! When I finished the book I was sooooooo relieved that she moved into the Aunt’s pub. And they didn’t get hurt by the evil dad! I was sad that she had to move away from her best friend she was my favourite character. I loved the idea of George The Shark.

Thank you for reading my e-mail! I hope I have the wonderful opportunity to have a reply!

Love From

Jade, 10

Jacqueline’s reply

Dear Jade,

I’m so pleased you’ve started to like my books. I wonder why Miss Johnson doesn’t care for them?! It’s good that reading Hetty Feather changed your mind, and encouraged you to read some more.

Your pets sound delightful. I wonder if your dog has sticking up fur on top of his head like the singing twins Jedward?

I have a little rescue cat Jacob who is grey and white, and the love of my life. I’d like a dog too, but at the moment I go away such a lot it wouldn’t be fair.

I’ve wanted to write ever since I was six. I loved reading books so much I longed to write my own.

I am still best friends with Chris – I saw her only just the other day when we had a meal and went to a museum together. I haven’t seen Cherry or Sue for ages, but we still send Christmas cards to each other. I lost touch with Carol when I left school.

My favourite book is definitely Hetty Feather.

I don’t exactly have imaginary friends now, but I suppose the characters in my book inhabit my head in a very similar way.

Love from

Jacqueline Wilson
