FANMAIL REPLIES FOR FEBRUARY

Ode to Jacob!

Dear Jacqueline,
My name is Katie Wells and I am 10 years old. I have a sister called Emma and we both really enjoy watching Tracy Beaker Returns! My question is: do you have much to do with Tracy Beaker Returns, and the set? I would love for you to reply to my email, and answer my question, but I do understand how busy you are. When I am older I think that I would like to be either a teacher or an author like you. I call one of my mom’s best friends my Auntie to be polite, and she says that Katie Wells is an authors name. I really like Jacob so I made up a acrostic poem about him because I think that he is adorable. Here it is:

Jacob is one of the cutest kittens that I have ever seen.
And I can imagine him lying next to you in the garden.
 Chasing a ball of wool.
Over and over he rolls getting covered in grass.
But then he comes over to you and you tickle his tummy.

I hope that you like my poem.

Dear Katie

I love your acrostic poem about Jacob. I read it to him just now and he purred appreciatively. I'm so glad you and Emma like watching 'Tracy Beaker Returns'. It was my original idea to have Tracy return to the care home now she's grown up, but I don't really have too much to do with the making of the programme. They do send me the scripts for approval though! Lots of children write to me hoping to get a part on the show, but sadly I don't have anything to do with the casting. I've often asked if I can see the children auditioning - but I've never been invited along!

A real-life Marty!

Hello Jacqueline,

This weekend I went to London to film the trailer for your new book 'The Worst Thing About My Sister'. I played Marty. I will be going to London next week to do the Voice Over.

I had a fantastic time and think the character is brilliant, it was great fun to play a tom boy. I can't wait to read the book. Anna Lavelle is a very good director and we had a lot of fun practicing the fighting between Marty and Melissa.

I got the preview book that came with the Christmas magazine and read from it in my audition for Marty.

Yesterday was my 9th birthday and they gave me a cake on set when we had wrapped.

My big sister Laura, works in Laura Ashley in Kingston and you came into her shop last week and gave her your autograph which she gave me this weekend. Thank you for writing the little note, I love the drawing you did. It looks just like you.

I thought you might like to see a photograph of me as Marty. I had to have my hair in curlers (and sleep in them) every night because I really have straight hair. When I was going back to my sister's house on the train each night I had to wear a great big hat to cover them up. I looked very funny.

I only started reading your books in November when my grandma bought me Hetty Feather. I have read Hetty Feather, Sapphire Battersea and i have 13 more of your books, my mum cried all the time when she was reading Vicky Angel.

I got 8 books for Christmas and my friend is sending me 3 books for my birthday. My mum has ordered your new book, I can't wait for it to come out. I will be very excited when it comes.

When will the third book about Sapphire Battersea be coming out? Hetty Feather and Sapphire Battersea are my favourites, but I think The Worst Thing About My Sister will be from now on.

Thank you for writing very good books.

Love

Francesca Turton.

Dear Francesca

I think you make a fabulous Marty - and the curlers made your hair really really curly!  I've just seen a very tiny sneak preview of the trailer - I can't wait to see the finished film.  I'm glad you had fun while you were acting.  I hope you get a part in any future adaptations of my books.

I'm glad you like the Hetty Feather books.  The third one will be out in the beginning of October.  I've very nearly finished writing it - I'm on the last chapter!
